The Waiting Page

Olivia Bennett

In this piece, which I might call “Held Together,” I wanted to take an everyday object – a simple lavender notebook – and explore its quiet presence through a vibrant lens. The immediate thing you notice is the color contrast: that soft, calm purple set against a burst of energetic orange. This juxtaposition was deliberate, aiming to make the familiar notebook feel fresh, almost electric, and full of life.

For me, a closed notebook, especially one secured so neatly by its elastic band, is a powerful symbol. It’s not just bound paper; it represents a contained world of unwritten thoughts, budding ideas, or stories patiently waiting to unfold. It’s a very personal space, a silent keeper of potential. The strong, graphic shadow it casts under the direct light hints at the substance and depth of the ideas that might be held within its pages, even if they remain unseen and private for the moment.

Ultimately, my intention was to highlight the inherent beauty and understated significance of these simple tools that aid our creativity and organization. It’s about capturing that feeling of anticipation just before the cover is opened, the quiet thrill of all those blank pages ready to be filled. It’s a bold yet gentle image, a little pop of color holding a universe of possibility.
